Stop Overthinking

Want to stop overthinking, but not sure how to start?  Here are some helpful tips to get you started.  The saying that we tend to worry about things that will most likely never happen is true.  Stop living in your mind, and start living life.
  1. Practice Mindfulness- Focus on the present moment through meditation or deep breathing. It helps quiet racing thoughts.  
  2. Set a Time Limit for Decisions- Give yourself a deadline to make choices. This prevents endless mental loops.
  3. Challenge Negative Thoughts- Question the validity of your worries. Ask, “Is this thought based on facts or assumptions?”
  4. Engage in Physical Activity- Exercise like walking or gardening redirects your mind. It boosts endorphins, reducing stress.
  5. Write It Down- Journal your thoughts to clear mental clutter. Writing organizes and releases overthinking patterns.
  6. Distract Yourself Purposefully- Dive into a hobby or task you enjoy. It shifts focus from repetitive thoughts.
  7. Practice Self-Compassion- Be kind to yourself and accept imperfections. Remind yourself it’s okay to make mistakes.
  8. Seek Support- Sharing thoughts can provide perspective and relief.
