Corporate Greed vs Big Pharma Showdown

The real debacle of this government shutdown hit me yesterday. Sure, there are absolutely legitimate situations where folks need food assistance like families down on their luck, the elderly scraping by, single parents juggling impossible odds. We can all agree to that, but let's be real.  This SNAP program has been abused over the years, with checks and balances applied so loosely it's basically a suggestion rather than a rule. Fraud, waste, and dependency have ballooned and its more about perpetuating the system than truly helping the needy. As November 1st looms, its showtime.

Here's where it gets juicy.  I sense the big corporations are cranking up the heat on the Democrats to get this shutdown wrapped up pronto. The first of the month is a massive revenue bonanza with millions loading up grocery carts at Walmart and Kroger, hitting the drive-thru at McDonald's, even splashing out on Amazon deliveries, all swiped with EBT cards. It's pure profit fuel. If more people shopped like I do by scanning sales, crunching price-per-ounce math, prioritizing quality ingredients, whipping up scratch meals instead of grabbing processed junk, or just skipping the crap altogether the corporate margins would tank. That is why they want the massive EBT revenue. Why do you think Schumer suddenly had his "revelation" to push for SNAP funding? It isn't some bleeding-heart epiphany about feeding the hungry.  It's the corporate lobbyist masters whispering sweet nothings (and fat checks) in his ear. The system's rigged to keep the carts full and the shareholders happy.

But here is the plot twist:  While Big Food and retail giants want the Dems to cave and reopen the spigot, Big Pharma's playing the long game, urging them to hold out and force a shutdown extension tied to renewing Obamacare. That includes funneling more taxpayer dollars into free healthcare for undocumented immigrants, keeping those prescription pipelines gushing. Pharma overlords aren't about to let their billions slip away over a little fiscal drama. So, what master do the Dems serve in this mess? The corporate greed puppeteers demanding their SNAP-fed feasts, or the Big Pharma overlords guarding their pill empire? They're in a genuine pickle, caught between two greedy giants. I guess time will tell who puts on the most pressure!  Enjoy the show!

Much Love,
Lynn

  1. So much SNAP abuse to eliminate. "Luxury and High priced items like sirloin, lobster ect should be eliminated as well as "premium" brands of coffee, cheese and other high priced items most families on a budget cant afford. While many on SNAP spend money on drugs, there should be a way to monitor take people off EBT if family members are making large purchases of alcohol or cigarettes,
