Over-diagnosing Personalities

In life, if you hunt for a problem, you'll usually find one.  The pharma and medical industries have mastered this art to boost profits. People come in endless unique variations.  There are introverts who thrive in solitude, extroverts who light up rooms, shy folks who warm up slowly, and outgoing ones who crave the spotlight. These are all healthy deviations, not defects. Yet too often, someone who's just seemingly awkward gets slapped with a diagnostic label and pushed toward pills to squeeze them into some arbitrary "normal" range. But who defines normal? It's a moving target that conveniently expands the market for treatments.

Labels aren't harmless stickers.  People grow into them, fulfilling prophecies they never asked for. Instead of pathologizing the introvert who wants to be left alone, the energetic boy better off burning steam on a playground, or the kid craving structure amid chaos (versus a free-for-all that breeds trouble), let's embrace differences.  Quit monetizing quirks and let people be.  True wellness comes from acceptance, not a prescription pad.
Much Love, Lynn
