No More Day-One Hep B Jabs

After decades of relentless pressure, parents are finally winning the right to say “no” to the hepatitis B vaccine for their newborns without being bullied, guilt-tripped, or forced to sign religious exemption forms. The tide is turning.  More hospitals and several states are quietly dropping the automatic day-of-birth shot and actually requiring real informed consent. That’s a massive victory for basic common sense.

Let’s be crystal clear, hepatitis B is a blood-borne STD almost exclusively spread by IV drug use and unprotected sex. Healthy newborns are not shooting up heroin or sleeping around. The risk to a baby born to a screened, hep B-negative mother is effectively zero. Giving an aluminum-containing shot to a hours-old infant “just in case” they grow up to make bad choices was never medicine.  It was social engineering dressed up as public health.   

Let babies be babies.  No needles, no toxins, no fear-mongering on day one. This win is long overdue, and every parent who fought for it deserves to celebrate.
