Sunscreen, The Toxic Truth

With warmer temps rolling in, it's tempting to slather on sunscreen, but let's talk about what's really in many of those chemical formulas. 

Common ingredients like avobenzone and oxybenzone absorb into your bloodstream after just one day of use, often reaching levels far above the FDA's threshold. These chemicals have raised concerns over potential endocrine disruption and other health effects.

Meanwhile, sun exposure is crucial for producing vitamin D, which supports immune function, bone health, mood, and more. Blocking the sun entirely can limit this nutrient, and evidence links vitamin D to better overall health.

The takeaway? Skip heavy chemical sunscreens when you can.  If you REALLY need some protection (burn easy, outside for long periods, etc) opt for zinc oxide, try to stay in the shade or wear a hat.

Your body needs that sunshine and not a blockade of chemicals.
