Flu Season is Around the Corner

Every year the same advice to get the flu shot appears. Have you also noticed that every year plenty of vaccinated people still end up with the flu?  That's because vaccine makers simply guess which strains will dominate the upcoming winter and base their formulation on that guess. Sometimes they guess well, but most times they don’t.  

The real-world effectiveness with the shot lands somewhere between 40 and 60 percent. That means a sizable share of people WITH the shot still catch the flu. That is why the claim “the flu shot prevents the flu” is grossly overstated.
