The Hidden Cost of Data Centers

These massive energy and water-guzzling complexes are taking land, draining aquifers and destroying wildlife habitats.  This is a threat to bees, clean water supplies, farmland and forests.  There is no amount of “digital progress” worth poisoning our environment. 

Their real purpose has nothing to do with convenience or innovation. They exist to expand the surveillance state by storing, processing and analyzing our every move. We are being asked to sacrifice pollinators, rivers and woods so a handful of interests can perfect their monitoring apparatus

These centers are not a neutral infrastructure offering economic growth with innovation and jobs. They are the physical foundation of mass surveillance, and the environmental cost is too high.
