Let Children Be Children

There is something deeply absurd about marketing makeup and beauty products to young children and toddlers. The beauty industry spent decades marketing to, convincing them they needed one more product to look better, younger or more attractive (which I'm also against, but for another discussion). The evolved to focus on men and teens.  Now that same marketing machine is moving toward children, treating them as a new generation of beauty consumers.  The corporate greed is a beast.

Toddlers don't need makeup. Young children don't need adult beauty routines. They don't need to be taught that their appearance is something to constantly evaluate, improve, or enhance.

This isn't about health. It's about vanity, marketing, and profit.  Parents, please don't let your kids fall prey to this. Kids are not miniature adults. Adult products and adult beauty standards belong in adult hands. Childhood should be a time for play, imagination, learning, and simply being comfortable in your own skin.

Parents have a role in protecting that boundary, too. We shouldn't encourage children to worry about looking older, more glamorous, or more attractive simply because an industry has decided they are a profitable market.  See this marketing ploy for what it is.

Let adults be adults. Let children be children.

Much Love, Lynn
