A 36-hour fast depletes liver glycogen, shifts the body into fat-burning (ketosis), and strongly activates autophagy. Autophagy works like a garbage truck in your body as it is a cellular process that removes damaged proteins, reduces inflammation, and supports metabolic health. Studies show measurable increases in autophagic markers after 24–48 hours of fasting.

I beat you to it Lynn, knowing the calorie horrors awaiting me during the dreaded Thanksgiving Christmas New Years overeating vortex and started the master cleanse (basically just drinking lemon juice maple syrup and cayenne pepper) the week before Thanksgiving. It is a great reset for the body I'd recommend to anyone and now past day ten I feel great although my dog misses eating with me and she usually does.
ReplyDeleteI fasted early in November and felt I needed another go at it before Xmas. It never hurts to reset the balance. It can make you feel so much better!
DeleteIf you want to kick your fasting into high gear, try dry fasting (no water, not even showers). It's three times more powerful. A few things about my experience with this. You WILL be thirsty and you WILL be hungry. It takes a lot of discipline. You will feel soreness in your legs, your lips will be chapped, you will lose your voice, you will feel weak, you will have bad body odor (body releasing toxins). That all might sound bad but, when I first did a 72 hour dry fast, I noticed a big change when I ended it. Right after i broke the fast, I had a bunch of dark brown mucus come up and it just kept coming, like it had been in my body for years and it smelled horrible. Your body gets rid of the bad stuff. Your skin will be smooth all over, your hair will be soft. Fasting also puts years back on to your life. I day of fasting adds a year back, so 1 day of dry fasting is like 3 years back. In the bible, Moses did multiple 40 day fasts and at the end of his life the bible says his eye was not dim and he still had moisture (youthful skin). 40 seems to be the number for the ultimate fast. I figured since 1 day of dry fasting is like 3 days of regular fasting, then 2 weeks of dry fasting will be the dame as 40 days.
ReplyDeleteSome people might think that 3 days without water will kill you. That depends on the environment. In climate control you can go beyond 3 days. I know because I did it.
Another thing of note is that Pythagoras was required to fast for 40 days before being accepted into the Egyptian mystery schools to learn sacred geometry. The Zulus also have a saying: The full stomach cannot see the secret things.
Very interesting. I've heard of the dry fast and read up on it. I do think there are a lot of benefits to that kind of massive detox. You body basically does a huge purge. I'm doing the water only for now. In the past if my heart races with a fast, I do a pinch of salt, but i've been good this time around. No issues. It usually gets easier the longer I go, and much more productive too without schedule "eating."
