Central Casting, Stage Left

Have you noticed Trump has a habit of slipping the words “central casting” into interviews, rallies and offhand remarks. He’ll look at a general, a politician, a news anchor, or even a random face in the crowd and say something like, “That guy looks like he came straight out of central casting.” It happens often enough that people who listen closely start noticing the pattern.

Central Casting is a REAL Hollywood company that has supplied extras and character actors for movies and television for decades. When Trump uses the phrase, it's a way of saying pay attention. To those who dismiss it, the line is just another Trumpism. To others, it functions as a running commentary that everything if fake with adversaries arriving on cue, storylines escalating on schedule and villains and heroes are playing their expected roles.  This is more like a soap opera than spontaneous reality.

The truth is the same language Hollywood uses to cast extras is being applied to the people driving  headlines.  Whether this is Trump's observational humor or a repeated signal that the stage is set, the players are performing their assigned parts and the phrase keeps returning.

What are your thoughts?

Much Love, Lynn
