Where's The Beef (From?)

The Secretary of Agriculture refuses to say which countries will be sending hundreds of thousands of tons of beef into American grocery stores. She didn't say “we’re still negotiating” or “several partners.” She just said that she wasn't privy to talk about that. 

This is the person whose job is to investigate the origin of the meat supply on your family’s table for safety. The administration wants to flood the market with up to 300,000 metric tons of imported ground beef, tariff-free or close to it, to knock prices down before the midterms and not tell you where it's from. If the solution is foreign beef, Americans have a basic right to know whose cattle, raised under what standards, slaughtered under which rules, are about to be mixed the burgers we are about to eat.

Why the secrecy?  A USDA stamp on a package already does not tell you where the animal was born, raised, or killed. Now the government is accelerating the imports and refusing to name the sources. If the beef is high-quality and safe, say so and name the countries. If there are reasons to keep it quiet, those reasons belong in public too. 

Thoughts? My concern is if this is even real meat or a hybrid of something else.
